Obama's Balls of Fury

Honestly, you cannot make this stuff up? Obama, the ping pong man promoter? Surely this is not how Don King got started on his career.  In a nutshell, Obama used his influence in the Illinois Senate to get a grant for a guy who paid Barack $112,000.  The cause in question?  PING PONG.  This piece in the Chicago Tribune offers the tasty details:

Chicago entrepreneur Robert Blackwell Jr. paid Obama an $8,000-a-month retainer to give legal advice to his growing technology firm, Electronic Knowledge Interchange. It allowed Obama to supplement his $58,000 part-time state Senate salary for more than a year with regular payments from Blackwell's firm that totaled $112,000.

A few months after receiving his final payment from EKI, Obama sent a request on state Senate letterhead urging Illinois officials to provide a $50,000 tourism promotion grant to another Blackwell company, Killerspin.

Killerspin specializes in table tennis, running tournaments nationwide and selling its own line of equipment and apparel and DVD recordings of the competitions. With support from Obama, other state officials and an Obama aide who went to work part time for Blackwell's firms, the company eventually obtained $320,000 in state grants between 2002 and 2004 to subsidize its tournaments. . . .

When Blackwell sought backing for his table tennis tournament in 2002, other politicians including U.S. Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley offered support for the event. But Obama was the only one who provided a letter that became part of the initial application for state funds, state records show. In addition, he wrote a state Senate proclamation heralding the first tournament and an official letter welcoming "table tennis friends" to the 2004 contest, thanking spectators for helping to "make Chicago the table tennis capital of this nation."

When I read this my mind jumped immediately to a recent cinematic classic.  It stars Christopher Walken.  It is about Ping Pong.  It is called, BALLS OF FURY.  Now you tell me?  Was this Barack's inspiration?

Maybe Barack can star in Balls of Fury, The Return.

Well, I appreciate Alegre's sense of humor.  It looks like Obama supporters are losing theirs more and more (not that they had a lot to begin with).

Well, the cut, paste, repeat doesn't strike me as funny at all.  Just a bit bitter.  I guess the funniness is all in the eye of the beholder.

Okay, I'll break down and give you a couple of giggles for your efforts.  Thanks.

Re: Obama's Balls of Fury (2.00 / 4)

I am just wondering how many days in a row did we have to read threads about Bosnia and how HRC is a liar for forgeting something that happened 13 years ago.  Just wondering.

How many HRC admits to being a liar????

I am not defending this thread but i am saying i get tried of the double standard.  When BO's crowd were smearing HRC as a liar i just dont remember much outrage from the BO camp.  But i do remember BO saying that neither he nor his campaign were pushing the story.

Sorry he said his campaign was only answering question about Bosnia they were not pushing it.  And they have the nerve to suggest HRC is a liar.  Whatever.

Ping Pong... (2.00 / 3)

Alegre, I think Obama's supporters have something like that in their heads:

Ding, Dong, the witch is dead....  Something like that.  But that charm won't work because there is no witch, only a man behind the curtain in the great palace of illusions.

Q: What do Obama and ping pong balls have in common?

A: Both are light weight and filled with air.

Thanks for reminding all of us how (none / 0)

closely in touch Obama was staying with all of his friends.  I read an interesting newspaper article yesterday that pointed out that it is possible that this money was actually being laundered through the law firm since the firm actually had no relationship with Blackwell.  I hope somebody is looking into this.  If it was a money-laundering scheme, it seems that everybody involved would/should be indicted and disbarred.  No wonder Obama is afraid to debate ever again.
